  • On Saturday morning, hundreds gathered at Hammons Field for a stair climb honoring those lost in the September 11 terrorist attacks—participants walked the 110-story distance of the World Trade Center and raised nearly $28,000 with a goal of reaching $40,000 to support surviving families and coworkers.  KY3

  • The Springfield News-Leader won 18 awards, including five first-place honors, at the Missouri Press Association's Sept. 13 awards luncheon in Wildwood—journalists like Marta Mieze were recognized for their work in design and headline writing.  Springfield News-Leader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation will hold a muzzleloader deer hunt for people with disabilities Oct. 11-12 at the Bois D’Arc Conservation Area in Greene County—closing the area to other activities for safety. The Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center will remain open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the conservation area will reopen to the public Oct. 13.  OzarksFirst.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com showed that Greene County home sale prices increased slightly in June, with the median price at $264,600 compared to May’s $263,793 and up 5.4% from June last year—indicating a modest rise in the local market.  Springfield News-Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • SMU erased a 10 to 0 lead by scoring 28 straight points to beat Missouri State 28 to 10 in their home opener at Plaster Stadium on September 13. Missouri State’s early advantage was undone by turnovers and penalties.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Springfield Catholic won 30-17 over Strafford on Friday night as senior Noah Whiteley made two interceptions — one returned for a 41-yard touchdown. Coach Wes Page said the team, which improved from a long string of losses, will travel to Reeds Spring next week to keep their winning streak alive.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Week 3 of high school football saw several teams earn big wins as Fair Grove rallied from a two-score deficit to beat Buffalo 28-14 and Logan-Rogersville started 3-0 with a 34-12 win over Parkview—while Springfield Catholic, Republic, and Nixa also recorded impressive performances that boosted their seasons. These games featured standout efforts such as Sam Frieze’s 293 passing yards and four touchdowns, Republic’s over 400 yards on the ground, and Nixa coach John Perry reaching his 200th win.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State lost its first FBS home game on Saturday as SMU rallied for a 28 to 10 win after Missouri State's quarterback Jacob Clark threw for 275 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted three times including one in the end zone—marking longtime radio voice Art Hains' final broadcast at revamped Plaster Stadium.  KY3
