COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local rescuers worked hard to save Juggy—a stray dog with a jug stuck on his head—from a dangerous nine-day ordeal near Springfield. Residents finally caught him on a porch, and he now starts a new life with a caring family.  KY3
  • On Memorial Day (Monday, May 25), the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield hosted a service honoring 150 years of veteran sacrifice with flag placements, speeches and a shuttle from The Springs Church for attendees.  KY3
  • On Memorial Day, hundreds gathered at Phelps Park in Springfield for the Together Across America Mutual Aid event that distributed free gas cards, laundromat cards, clothing, food, and other urgent items (exceeding organizers' expectations). Volunteers say more such events are needed to support the community.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bookmarx at 325 E. Walnut St. is expanding into the adjacent space by doubling its footprint to add an expanded children's section+ event area and a new book-buying counter. The store remains open with extended Sunday hours, with renovations expected to finish this summer.  Springfield News-Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Missouri State Bears—returning since their 2022 appearance—will open NCAA Regional Tournament play against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday, May 29 at 5 p.m. in Kansas as they build on a season that saw them finish third in their conference.  KY3
  • Missouri State’s baseball team is set to return to the NCAA Tournament after earning the No. 3 seed in the Lawrence Regional. They will face Arkansas on Friday at 5 p.m. in a rematch that recalls previous postseason battles.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • After a long road trip, the Springfield Cardinals return home to host the Wichita Wind Surge today at Route 66 Stadium at 6:35 p.m. Outfielder Miguel Ugueto is 17-for-19 in steals & on pace to break the team record while recovering from ankle surgery.  Springfield Daily Citizen
