  • Springfield has launched its Clean Green 2026 cleanup initiative to prepare for the National Route 66 Centennial Kickoff and America’s 250th Celebration from April 30 to May 2. Volunteers can sign up for street, stream, and Mother Road Refresh (April 11) events via the GivePulse platform.  KY3

CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield author David Harrison was named national Route 66 centennial poet laureate and will read five original poems during events from April 30 through May 3, including a presentation at Birthplace Plaza and a screening at Great Southern Bank Arena, as announced by Mayor Jeff Schrag.  Springfield News-Leader

  • Ruby-throated hummingbirds are expected to arrive in mid-to-late April in Missouri and Arkansas as early sightings increase in the Ozarks; residents can attract them by setting out feeders with a four-to-one water and sugar mix or planting red and orange tubular flowers.  KY3
