COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Springfield couple is searching for their lost pit bull Donner as they seek a Christmas miracle by gathering community tips to locate the pet. The search is ongoing as they hope to bring the family pet home soon.  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri State University named six Citizen Scholar award winners on Dec. 11 after selecting from 17 nominees based on academics and community service. The honors recognize outstanding students from Springfield + other areas.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Springfield Public Schools will break ground on a new middle school next June in the Pershing neighborhood. Some neighbors worry the campus shift will reduce privacy—officials say the design includes buffer zones to protect homes.  KY3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dickerson Park Zoo is hosting a phone recycling program to support flamingo conservation — residents receiving new phones for Christmas may donate their old devices to help fund wildlife initiatives.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city said the repaired Jenny Lind Hall apartment elevator may reopen as soon as next week+ pending full contractor payment, after HUD funding delays left disabled and elderly tenants without service for nearly two years.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Following a recent report, CoxHealth announced it will work with other insurers to offer in-network rates for patients needing continued care after dropping Marketplace plans in Greene and Webster counties. More than 4,000 members are affected while those in Barry, Christian, Lawrence, Stone & Taney counties keep their current plans.  KY3

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Bears from the 1960s recall memorable bowl games (including years spent in Excelsior Springs) as they cheer Missouri State ahead of the XBox Bowl on Dec.18 in Frisco, Texas, linking a historic chapter to today’s first Football Bowl Subdivision season.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State honors late safety Todric McGee by displaying his jersey, which inspires the Bears as they begin their inaugural FBS bowl season. They face Arkansas State at 8 p.m. tomorrow — at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State and Arkansas State played a fowling game Tuesday at the Fowling Warehouse (a hybrid of bowling, darts, and football) where the Red Wolves earned a team trophy; the teams will meet Thursday on the Ford Center turf for the inaugural Xbox Bowl.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State beat Oral Roberts 63 to 62 on Tuesday after Keith Palek III scored 27 points, including 11 in the second half that led to a game-winning layup with four seconds left. He also grabbed eight rebounds + helped secure the win.  KY3
