COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Miss Teen USA visited Crosslines on Tuesday evening where she shared her national title win and collected feminine hygiene products to support girls facing period poverty. The event featured 50 girls receiving crowns on arrival and highlighted her advocacy for keeping girls in school.  KY3
  • A Springfield mother who moved with her five children is enjoying closer family and improved schooling for her teens but still struggles with child care for her toddler; the Share Your Christmas program collects gifts and donations—drop-offs accepted at Crosslines Community Outreach on E. Division St until Wednesday, Dec. 17.  Springfield News-Leader
  • University Heights Baptist Church installed 19 white crosses on its west lawn on December 4 to honor local gun violence victims. The church will host The Longest Night: A Service of Remembrance on December 21 at 6 p.m., plus families may take home a cross as a keepsake.  KSMU
  • Springfield residents are invited to share their Christmas light displays (addresses required for visitors) as part of a community call to spread holiday cheer.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Food truck owners at Metro Eats are losing customers as the Sunshine Bridge construction blocks access from Republic, with some reporting a 60% drop in business since August. MoDOT says the project will finish by the end of the year, prompting owners to consider new hours and possible relocations.  KY3
  • Forbes released its 2026 America's Best Companies list on Dec. 4, placing Springfield's O'Reilly Automotive at 39th nationally and fourth best in Missouri alongside Prime trucking and downtown Forvis Mazars (based on more than 100 metrics).  Springfield News-Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield city officials launched a survey to gather feedback on a proposed convention & events center following the November election. Residents can respond until Dec. 19 as their input will help guide future planning.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 3, a baby was born at Wonders of Wildlife when Mercy dispatcher Eli Snider guided the caller and mother through a seven-minute phone delivery — first responders from Springfield Fire Department confirmed both were healthy on arrival.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Cox HealthPlans announced that it will stop offering Affordable Care Act plans in Greene and Webster counties next year, leaving current residents to switch providers if they want to keep their coverage. Local patient Carrie Netzer, who is undergoing cancer treatment, fears having to change her trusted doctors.  KY3
  • Springfield residents are advised to clean dryer lint screens each time they wash and dry clothes to help prevent rising fire risks this winter — professional cleaning is recommended for complicated vent systems.  KY3

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri State University accepted an invitation to play in the inaugural Xbox Bowl at Ford Center in Frisco, Texas on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. The Bears (7–5) will make their first-ever FBS bowl appearance as they face Arkansas State (6–6) on ESPN2.  KY3
  • The Missouri Tigers are awaiting their bowl fate as officials finalize details, and the basketball schedule heats up in CoMo; local fans are watching closely (reports from Ozarks Sports Zone).  KY3
