COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Card collectors are gathering at Cards at Cards at Hammons Field this weekend where visitors can browse cards valued between $40 and $50,000. Co-founder Nathan Duncan said admission is $5 for adults and free for kids 14 and under, with doors opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 4 p.m. today.  KY3
  • More than 20 free Christmas light displays are set up in Springfield and the Ozarks where residents can enjoy music-synced shows and festive decorations at spots like Bagwell Lights and Collins Family Lighting. ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Springfield report shows that basic Thanksgiving staples will cost about $43.75 at four local stores while experts warn that turkey prices will jump because a bird flu outbreak is cutting supply—raising the cost of the main dish. A national survey shows the overall meal cost will average near $54.38 in the Midwest compared to $58.90 last year.  Springfield News-Leader

  • City officials announced that construction crews finished a key phase of the Renew Jordan Creek project by installing 70 culvert boxes under the BNSF Railway in nearly half the scheduled time. HEALTH NEWS

  • Missouri agriculture officials say no cases of equine herpes myeloencephalopathy have been seen in Missouri even though horses from a Waco event and a barrel racing event in Guthrie were confirmed with a neurologic form of EHV-1— a highly contagious virus that affects nerves. Officials advise horse owners to quarantine their horses for at least 14 days and call a veterinarian if signs like fever, cough or stumbling occur.  OzarksFirst.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri State won 74-67 against UT Rio Grande Valley as Keith Palek III scored 28 points—he also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists to help turn the game around. Zaxton King and Kobi Williams contributed key points while the Bears improved to a 3-2 record and the Vaqueros fell to 2-3.  KY3
  • Missouri State and Kennesaw State played a key Conference USA game at Fifth-Third Stadium in Kennesaw on Oct. 29. Missouri State—led by quarterback Jacob Clark with running back Shomari Lawrence—struggled with false starts and penalties as Kennesaw State took an early lead.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • On Nov.21, the Nixa Eagles defeated Helias Catholic 45 to 28 in the state quarterfinal after coach John Perry called a timeout that allowed kicker Jonah Fields to make a 52-yard field goal to halt a comeback. The Eagles built a 28 to 0 lead before Helias trimmed the gap, and Nixa will travel on Nov.29 to face the winner between Fort Zumwalt West and Pattonville.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • On Saturday, Amari Odom threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Chase Belcher with 27 seconds remaining to give Kennesaw State a 41-34 victory over Missouri State — Odom set a new school record with five touchdown passes in a game.  KY3
