COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tyson Foods and McDonald’s donated 40,000 pounds of chicken breast fillets to Ozarks Food Harvest to help feed over 33,000 meals - the food bank said the need remains high amid inflation and challenges after the government shutdown.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Downtown Springfield Association is searching for a new executive director after longtime leader Rusty Worley resigned—an effort to boost downtown vibrancy—and Arvest Bank broke ground on its 14th branch in Republic near Stone Creek Falls with a soft opening planned for late 2026. Other updates include that Tyson Foods donated 40,000 pounds of chicken breast fritters for McDonald’s Hungerthon and Mid-West Family Broadcasting launched a new morning show on 105.1 The Bull, while Strafford will welcome Tommy VanHorn as city administrator on Nov. 17—adding to the week’s community shifts.  Springfield News-Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • The History Museum on the Square will host Ozark Jubilee Live in Memory of Cathryn Lipscomb on Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Fox Theatre. Local favorites like Maddi Warren and The Creek Rocks + headliner Bobby Bare Jr. will perform, with proceeds supporting the museum.  OzarksFirst.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri State University Foundation announced at its board meeting on Nov. 13 that it received $12.5 million in gifts from donors to support student scholarships, athletics, and the construction of the new Clifton M. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation is seeking volunteers at Springfield Conservation Nature Center. An interest meeting will be held on November 20 from 7—8 p.m. at 4601 S. Nature Center Way and volunteers must commit an average of 10 hours each month.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Lone Pine Avenue will close to traffic between Galloway and Barton streets starting at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17 for concrete panel replacement until Nov. 24, weather permitting. The north and west spokes of the roundabout will remain open for traffic, and drivers are advised to detour using Republic Road, Luster Avenue, or Glenstone Avenue.  OzarksFirst.com
  • City Utilities reported power outages in southern Springfield last Friday morning that affected about 2,186 customers. The outages happened when a utility pole on Campbell Avenue and Weaver Road caught fire due to equipment failure—city crews are still working to determine when power will be restored.  OzarksFirst.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Victim Center in Springfield marks 50 years by launching the Hearts of Hope campaign that will invite local businesses to show support for survivors in January. The center offers free trauma-informed counseling to help victims heal from violence — its services have grown over decades to serve all ages.  Springfield Daily Citizen

  • The No. 19 Missouri Tigers will face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in an SEC game today at 6:45 p.m. on SEC Network—both teams aim to improve after recent losses.  KY3
  • The Missouri State Bears host the UTEP Miners today at 2 p.m. in a CUSA matchup—Missouri State holds a stronger season record while UTEP seeks to improve its standings and the contest airs on ESPN.  KY3
  • Missouri State freshman receiver Tristian Gardner made a 13-yard game-winning catch last week at Liberty and will now aim to boost his team as they face UTEP today at Plaster Stadium.
