BUSINESS NEWS

  • Plaza Towers in Springfield announced three new food and beverage concepts + Towers Comedy Club, Scratch & Co. and a rooftop bar will open early in 2026 as AMP Recreation works to revitalize the historic property.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Story House Bookstore will take over the space at 1150 E. Walnut St. where Pagination Bookshop once thrived. Siblings Michael Bruner and Penny Scroggs will run the new store, which was bought by Arthur Marx—grandson of artist Pinky Marx—and will open by mid-November with a grand opening celebration planned for spring.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missouri State University Foundation announced more than $12.5 million in new gifts to support scholarships, athletics and construction projects during its Board of Trustees meeting on November 13th. The meeting also included leadership changes as Beverly Miller Keltner will become chair on January 1 and two trustees joined from Frisco, Texas — a move that signals strong future backing for Missouri State.  KY3
  • The Missouri State University Foundation board of trustees surprised longtime leader Brent Dunn — known as Mr. Missouri State — by naming an office suite for him at the new Clifton M. Smart III University Advancement Center on November 13. The event celebrated over $12.5 million in new gifts supporting scholarships, athletics, and programs.  Springfield News-Leader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Missouri’s firearms deer season will begin Saturday, November 15 and continue until Tuesday, November 25, with new rules that require hunters to dispose of deer parts on the property of the kill or in a sanitary landfill. The Department of Conservation expanded the chronic wasting disease management zone to include additional counties for an extra hunting period from November 26 to 30—resident landowners and youth hunters have updated bag limits for antlerless deer.  OzarksFirst.com

  • Now that the U.S. Mint has stopped pressing pennies, local coin collectors advise keeping pre-1958 wheat cents for their collectible value while spending post-1981 pennies to help keep money circulating+Experts expect a commemorative edition may be released in 2026 to mark America’s 250th birthday.  KY3

  • Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe announced in a MoDOT press release that National Crash Responder Safety Week—Nov 17 to Nov 21—will honor emergency responders by urging drivers to slow down and move over on highways, as officials warn that rising fatalities may occur if caution is not exercised.  OzarksFirst.com

  • Local families formed the Tee 1 D Diabetes Foundation after facing the daily challenges of type one diabetes— they now host events like an annual golf tournament and offer support groups to help families manage the condition.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Rural Missouri EMS stations face long shifts and challenging calls as crews transport patients over long distances to treat conditions from birth to death. Many workers experience burnout and high turnover while handling heavy responsibilities during 12-hour shifts (as seen at the Washington County Ambulance District near Potosi).  Springfield News-Leader

  • Republic’s senior quarterback Preston McCracken said last October’s controversial loss helped his team get ready for today’s district championship rematch against Carthage at David Haffner Stadium— boosting their focus ahead of the game.   • Missouri State Bears have exceeded preseason expectations in their first FBS season in Conference USA with a 6-3 record and will host UTEP on Saturday.
