COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On November 10, the Downtown Springfield Association— the group guiding downtown revitalization— launched its search for a new Executive Director to lead downtown growth by working with local businesses, city leaders, and community partners.  Downtown Springfield

BUSINESS NEWS

  • BookMarx, a local used bookstore, announced it will add video rentals next year at 325 E. Walnut Street in a new section called Mister Googorium’s Movie Emporium—featuring theatrically released films and possibly unique oddities with a monthly rental price lower than streaming services.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Piccolo in Nixa will reopen by late November after it closed on June 29 when an SUV crashed into the building—no one was hurt. Almost all of its 45 employees are set to return as repairs near completion and local fundraising helped cover some costs.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CULTURE NEWS

  • The News-Leader is gathering submissions for its holiday light display guide and invites homes and businesses to share plans using a submission form—entries are due by the end of the day November 19 so the guide can be published before Thanksgiving. The interactive map will include photos and brief descriptions to help readers enjoy the displays.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Arrow Creative Reuse reopened in Springfield this weekend at 616 W Tampa Street—offering discounted donated art and craft supplies, special workshops, and concerts at its new Shoe Tree Listening Room; the store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.  OzarksFirst.com
  • BARK Entertainment took over the lease of the building that once housed Blue Room and will reopen it as Springfield Comedy Club with shows starting on Dec 12 — the new club will honor tickets from canceled shows. The company, which owns seven comedy clubs, aims to mend the local comedy scene by hiring a local team — including a Springfield general manager.  Springfield Daily Citizen

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday morning, many Springfield drivers found it hard to start their cars as cold weather reduced battery power. Auto expert Tim Fess—general manager at Rick’s Automotive—said battery performance dropped by up to 60% and advised drivers to turn off accessories—like the radio—to help the battery work better.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Food banks in the Ozarks face a surge in demand as millions wait for SNAP benefits during the ongoing federal shutdown. Ozarks Food Harvest purchased over $500,000 in extra food and released $300,000 in grants— and is hosting a free drive-thru grocery distribution for federal employees today at 2810 N. Cedarbrook Ave.  KY3
  • Missouri’s LIHEAP program is using carryover funds—because new federal dollars are on hold—to help over 100,000 families keep their utilities on during the government shutdown. Gov. Mike Kehoe said the state will work with local agencies to maintain payments until federal funding resumes.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kingsley Dental Clinic, operated by Jordan Valley Community Health Center, expanded its facility on Friday at 2238 W. Kingsley St. with 25 treatment rooms — nearly six times its previous capacity — to serve more vulnerable patients including children and adults with special needs in Springfield. Patricia Howell said the expansion will help provide essential emergency and preventative dental care.  KSMU
  • Routine inspections from November 3–7 at various Springfield and Republic restaurants found that several establishments corrected issues on site — including low sanitizer levels and improper food storage — while inspectors provided on-site education and set reinspection dates. The health inspections focused on both priority violations, such as unclean equipment, and nonpriority concerns identified during the checks.  OzarksFirst.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows that the median home sale price in Greene County rose to $262,995 in August, up 3.4% from July and 7.4% from last August. The median for single-family homes was $266,380—recorded sales increased 6.1% to 680 with total sales worth $255.6 million.  Springfield News-Leader
