COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, thousands protested peacefully on National Avenue in Springfield during the No Kings rally—despite rain in the forecast. Organizers from Indivisible and other groups held the event amid an 18-day government shutdown—calling for continued civic engagement.  KY3
  • Stephanie Stenger, a longtime Springfield nonprofit leader who helped launch Isabel’s House Crisis Nursery, has been named the 40th Humanitarian of the Year by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks and will receive a prize ($5,000) award. The award will be presented at 11:30 a.m. November 18 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel (her work spans several local boards), underscoring her commitment to the community.  Springfield News-Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Assistant superintendent Jennifer Katzin, who served the Logan-Rogersville district for 42 years and led Guinness World Record events in 2011 and 2024 — marking milestones in school participation — announced her retirement effective at the end of the 2025-26 year. The board accepted her plan on Oct. 15 and the district will soon search for a new assistant superintendent.  Springfield News-Leader
