COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crosslines is accepting applications for its annual Holiday Food and Toy Assistance Program as it prepares for increased demand from local families in need. The organization serves nearly 70,000 people by providing food packages and toys during the holiday season—residents are urged to apply online early.  KY3

  • Tractor Supply Company announced its new store will be located in the old Big Lots building (2565 N. Kansas Expressway) in north Springfield. A soft opening is planned for November 15 with a grand opening on November 22.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Dick's Sporting Goods will open a new megastore called Dick's House of Sport at Battlefield Mall in Springfield—using the vacant Dillard’s women store—and project plans show major improvements to the 118,000 square foot building; further details on the timeline and opening will be provided later.  OzarksFirst.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield boasts a busy scene that features the First Friday Art Walk, local teams like the Springfield Cardinals, and attractions such as the Springfield Conservation Nature Center — a variety of restaurants offer dishes from American classics to international flavors.   • The local DAR honored Private James Barham, one of the oldest Revolutionary War soldiers who later called Missouri home, by placing a bronze patriot grave marker at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Willard. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last year, the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools raised $1.45 million and managed $8.4 million to support teachers and students through grants, scholarships, busing, and a campaign that provided over 500 new coats.   • The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield is launching AGTS International to offer fully online Master of Leadership & Ministry and Doctor of Ministry degree programs in English and Spanish for Pentecostal leaders worldwide.   • Dickerson Park Zoo announced that the iconic bald eagle Phoenix was humanely euthanized on October 14th due to age-related joint issues—she had long served as a conservation ambassador in over 1,000 educational programs.  OzarksFirst.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • This Halloween, Springfield families are encouraged to display teal pumpkins on their porches to show they offer allergy-free treats—helping children with food allergies trick-or-treat safely. The Teal Pumpkin Project also provides an online map so parents can plan safe routes for the holiday.  KY3
  • Medicare scammers are calling and emailing enrollees, offering free medical equipment or genetic testing in exchange for Medicare numbers—caller IDs can be faked—and fraud with stolen IDs may delay needed care.  KY3

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Chef Craig Von Foerster from Harvest Restaurant in Rogersville makes a fresh arugula apple salad that mixes peppery greens with sweet Honeycrisp apples and creamy goat cheese. The salad is brightened by a homemade lemon maple dressing and takes just 15 minutes to prepare for four as a side dish or two as a light lunch.  KY3

  • The Missouri Tigers will travel to Auburn on Saturday for their first Southeastern Conference road game of 2025 — the team is preparing to face a tough opponent in this upcoming matchup.  KY3
  • Junior running back Sam Boster led Springfield Catholic with a 72 yard touchdown run that helped secure a 36 to 15 win and saw him average 11.2 yards per carry as the Fightin' Irish remain undefeated.
