- ➤ Demolition crews tore down the east side of the old Rancho Court on E. Kearney this week—part of Route 66 history that opened in the 1940s and was later declared a nuisance by the City in September. The remaining cabins west of N. - ➤ Springfield’s Rescue One rescued two dogs in a crisis yesterday + the dogs now remain with local foster care providers as they recover. KY3

- ➤ Sheri Perkins and Renee Textor held a ribbon cutting for The Table on Oct. 13 as local community members gathered at 610 N. Prospect Ave. The restaurant — built on the long-vacant site of the 1896 Springfield Flour Mill — will open on Oct. 20 and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Zimmer Midwest Communications launched a new country music station called 93.7 The Stage in Springfield yesterday. The station plays popular artists like Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs (and also airs emerging acts like Ty Myers) to offer Ozarks listeners a fresh sound (with a focus on today’s new country format). - ➤ Springfield Public Schools holds a luncheon today at noon to induct three outstanding alumni into the 2025 Hall of Fame — Ken McClure, former mayor; Warren Robinett, a pioneering game developer; and Nancy Allen, an attorney and bestselling author. KY3
- ➤ Discovery School in Springfield was the only non-religious private school to receive taxpayer-funded scholarships from the MOScholars program — it got 54 awards, nearly half of its student body, while local religious schools received 143. Rep. Betsy Fogle said the data confirmed her concerns that state funds favor institutions that lack the same accountability measures as public schools. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ On October 15, the Springfield Center for Dyslexia and Learning hosted an Oktoberfest event at 4 By 4 Brewing to raise awareness for dyslexia & mark its 10th anniversary and Dyslexia Awareness Month with scavenger hunts, raffles, and gift baskets, while facing tougher funding challenges. KY3
- ➤ Drury University reported that local student enrollment rose by 23% this year because of its new Drury Springfield Promise program. The initiative offers a $2,000 scholarship and limits out-of-pocket costs for eligible students from Springfield and eight nearby counties—helping make college more affordable. - ➤ Missouri State University built early ties with Chinese universities when a three-person team led by Jim Baker traveled to China 25 years ago to set up exchange programs focused on agriculture and business—these efforts paved the way for current collaborations including a program now enrolling 810 Chinese students via MSU-West Plains in Dalian. - ➤ Culinary arts students at Table Rock Career Center are making and delivering over 1,000 servings of chicken fried rice to help fight food insecurity today.
