COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Springfield police officers helped at Crosslines children’s closet & pantry during a National Faith & Blue weekend service project that ended today, sorting socks & underwear and deep-cleaning the pantry to support foster care families. Crosslines reported a rise in donated items and said the volunteer work eased the daily workload for its staff. KY3
- ➤ Springfield’s Convoy of Hope will receive nearly $250,000 worth of unused toys — discovered during a cleanup at a former Come Play Products warehouse by Tyler Coupling. The donation will help provide holiday gifts for many local families. KY3
- ➤ Springfield-Greene County Park Board announced a major upgrade to McDaniel Park using a $1 million donation from the Hatch Foundation to add a 40 x 80-foot pavilion — with restrooms and lighting for the pump track — along with funds from TrailSpring and the city for design and construction, which will be completed by January with work starting in summer 2026. The plan’s third phase will add an accessible playground, paved walkways and picnic shelters once funding is secured. OzarksFirst.com

- ➤ The Rachel Donelson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution placed a bronze patriot marker at the grave of Pvt. - ➤ Carol Taylor, retired president of Evangel University and the first woman in the role, will speak about her leadership journey and lessons for emerging leaders during efactory’s 'Untethered' series at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 405 N. - ➤ Drury University launched the Drury Springfield Promise— a plan to help local students pay less for college by providing a renewable $2,000 scholarship and capping tuition and fees at $3,000 for Pell-eligible students. - ➤ The Renew Jordan Creek team changed its schedule—Campbell Avenue will reopen to limited traffic Monday, Oct. 20 after a six-month closure for bridge and sidewalk work.
