COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, hundreds gather at the 51st Ozark Craft Fair at Finley River Park as around 350 vendors offer handmade items, including unique saw art by Oakridge Metal Designs; the fair runs through this weekend + giving visitors a chance to enjoy both classic and creative crafts.  OzarksFirst.com
  • At Fremont Elementary, the Kiwanis Club and Souls for the Heart gave 400 students new tennis shoes this week—continuing a long-standing tradition begun in the 1950s to support kids in need.  KY3

CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield welcomes visitors with a series of events from Oct. 3rd to Oct. 5th that include art walks, festivals, and trips to a nature center and zoo—each event gives a chance to try different local and international foods. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Summer heat and severe drought reduced corn yields and hay production for local farmers, causing higher feed prices and early cattle sales as limited hay supplies strained operations—intensifying cost pressures.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MoDOT announced that crews will begin work on two Christian County bridge projects in Ozark and Highlandville on Oct. 6 and Oct. 15 respectively. The Route CC/J project will close eastbound lanes with detours and the U.S. Route 160 work will narrow lanes and reduce speeds until both projects finish by Dec. 1—led by contractor Louis-Company, LLC at a cost of $928,831.  OzarksFirst.com
  • During his Oct 2 address in Springfield, Greene County Commissioner Bob Dixon hinted that future funding talks would include long-term solutions such as a 3% hotel tax increase on the Nov 4 ballot to support a new convention center—he called the measure a 'no brainer.'   • Today, the Renew Jordan Creek Project showed progress on downtown construction while negotiations continue with Sterling Mathis, owner of the Hotel of Terror, over costly accessibility upgrades needed for his historic property—details that are central to completing the full renovation of Main Street.   • This week marks the halfway point of a four-month construction project that closed W. Sunshine St. near Scenic Avenue in Springfield for a new overpass replacement spanning the MNA Railroad.   • The Springfield-Greene County Health Department has opened a new WIC office in the Burrell Behavioral Health building at 1111 South Glenstone to help young families get support—staff from WIC and Burrell will work together through a referral system to connect clients to needed services.  KY3
