  • Mexican native Lupita Hernandez founded her pastry business 'Sweet Pieces' in Springfield after starting in 2020 with a farmers’ market table and later expanding to a food truck—she now sells baked goods and a special coffee blend with Full Octave Coffee. CULTURE NEWS

  • Wonders of Wildlife held its 3rd Hunting and Fishing Day and Native American Heritage Celebration in Springfield with native vendors—authentic crafts, dancing and food—and hands-on outdoor skills sessions for families.   • The Springfield-Greene County Library District announced that the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale raised $206,739.50 — its third highest sale ever — and helped bring the 2025 total to $411,479.35, nearing $6 million raised since 1985.   • Kim and Sandy Kaufman bought the vacant home of hotel magnate John Q. Hammons on 2450 S. Skyline Drive in 2018 and spent six figures to renovate the 1978 house, preserving original features like a built-in record player and a JQH mailbox. SPORTS NEWS

  • Marty Prather, known as Sign Man for his creative signs at Missouri State and Cardinals games, passed away Sunday aged 67 from complications of respiratory distress after a weeks-long illness. He built Domino's Pizza franchises in Springfield and became the first fan inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2003—which confirms his enduring legacy as services are pending.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Missouri State's star quarterback Jacob Clark was injured late in the second quarter at Plaster Stadium after a hard hit by Western Kentucky—he did not return to the game.
