COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ben Tegeler, executive director of Ozark Greenways, told host Tom Carlson on In Our Town that the group worked on the Chadwick Flyer Trail and planned a network of trails across the region before their sell-out fundraiser on Sept. 23. He said the project will boost trail connectedness for local communities.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Rescue One in Springfield is looking for a new vet because their current one is moving and they will have to close the animal clinic until a replacement is found — the non-profit said the clinic has saved thousands of animals with emergency rescues.  OzarksFirst.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ozarks Literacy Council, a non-profit organization serving the Ozarks, provides free one-to-one tutoring, classroom readings and book distributions to help people improve their reading skills. It partners with local schools and hosts events—while accepting volunteers to join the effort.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Drury University, Evangel University and Ozarks Technical Community College reported higher fall enrollments as Drury recorded a 5% increase in day school students and its largest freshman class in a decade—Evangel saw a 4.6% rise along with a 23% growth in its seminary and Ozarks Tech added 721 students boosted by more health care and technical courses.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Greene County leaders said Phase II of the Kansas Expressway Extension—including a one-mile, two-lane road with a concrete pedestrian and bicycle path and a new four-way stop—opened Friday in south Springfield, with construction completed on time and under budget using mostly federal transportation funds.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • KY3’s Seteve Grant and Springfield Daily Citizen reporter Kathleen O’Dell found that many patients experienced long emergency room wait times for urgent care—reports show these delays are common in Springfield.  KY3

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Springfield’s oldest home at 1260 East Walnut Street, built in 1869 and linked to Laura Ingalls Wilder, is on the market for $1,075,000. The two-story Italianate house has four bedrooms, original mantels, and a carriage house converted to an entertainment space plus it will be toured on October 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during The Junior League of Springfield’s Annual Fall Home Tour.  OzarksFirst.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • All-State outside hitter Sofee Garrett now leads Fair Grove’s new volleyball team after key players graduated and the coach retired. The Eagles won three matches in a local tournament last weekend—and they will travel to Hollister on Sept. 30 for their next game.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • The 2025 Springfield Cardinals set a new record with 88 wins and won the Texas League Championship as they returned to downtown Springfield on Sept. 25—escorted by police. The team overcame an early slow season—raising local hopes for more players to join the major leagues soon.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Today, the Missouri State Bears will face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a CUSA matchup at 6 p.m. on ESPN — Missouri State defeated Tennessee-Martin last week while Western Kentucky earned a win over Nevada, and each team will seek to boost their standings in the game.  KY3
