- ➤ Bass Pro Shops announced it is buying watercraft maker Hobie and will move its production from Mexico to Lebanon plus Governor Mike Kehoe said the move will boost local growth and strengthen Missouri’s business reputation. KY3
- ➤ Forbes magazine's 400 richest Americans list for 2025 names five Missouri billionaires, including Springfield native John Morris of Bass Pro Shops, alongside David Steward, Pauline MacMillan Keinath, Jim Kavanaugh, and Rodger Riney—each earning a high rank from 98th to 352nd on the list. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today the Springfield Art Museum marked a milestone in phase one of its renovation and expansion project when museum leaders and Whiting-Turner Contracting Company placed the final steel beam. The project includes an expanded lobby, visitor lounges, a family learning center, and a new gallery — it is expected to finish by fall. KY3
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri State University reported a record enrollment of 27,235 students with more dual-credit and transfer students on its Springfield and West Plains campuses yesterday. President Williams said the growth supports the igniting opportunity plan — which aims to reach 30,000 students by 2030. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Missouri State University set new enrollment records this fall — system enrollment rose from 26,874 to 27,235 and Springfield campus enrollment increased from 25,038 to 25,238 on Sept. 22 — as higher dual enrollment and transfer numbers helped drive the growth. KY3
- ➤ Springfield Public Schools said the graduating class of 2026 will be the last group to name valedictorians and salutatorians—after this school year the district will use a cum laude system for honors in future classes. - ➤ Missouri education leaders held meetings Tuesday and last Wednesday to discuss changing how the state funds high-need students. The groups considered removing funding thresholds to better match rising costs and aid schools with extra needs — a plan still under review. Springfield News-Leader

- ➤ Two Greene County deputies were given the Medal of Valor for protecting people during a shooting on June 17, 2024—Ben Grote and Jason Miller—and Mountain Grove city worker Sean MacDonald from Wright County got a Public Safety Civilian Partnership Award for his rescue during a flood in November. - ➤ At the September 22 meeting, city officials approved two grants—one for $50,000 to create six cybersecurity apprenticeships and 17 youth apprenticeship coordinator roles, and one for $460,068 to fund six positions in Webster County for storm cleanup efforts. KY3
