- ➤ The GLO Center will hold Pride on C-Street on Saturday, Sept 27 after reviewing safety plans following a threat that left staff finding two bullets—scratched with 'DIE' and a homophobic slur—and canceling its Queer Artists Showcase. - ➤ The Gillioz Center for Arts & Entertainment will manage the Historic Fox Theatre on Park Central Square following the indefinite pause of the Springfield Contemporary Theatre. - ➤ Missouri State will open a new Construction Education Success Center at Kemper Hall to the public at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29; the 10,000-square-foot facility includes a high bay training lab — a project funded by the MoExcels Workforce Initiative and private gifts. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ The Springfield-Greene County Library District in partnership with 2oddballs Creative, Noble Business Strategies & the News-Leader will host a free training session titled 'AI & Your Kids: What Every Parent and Teacher Should Know' on Sept. 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Library Center, where panelist Bruce Douglas from Springfield Public Schools will help parents learn to guide safe AI use for children. - ➤ Drury University renamed its Trustee Science Center to Mercy Science Center after Mercy Springfield Communities gifted funds to boost science and health education programs, celebrated Sept. 18. The building—dedicated in 2002—hosts courses in biology, chemistry and health sciences that prepare future professionals. Springfield News-Leader
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MoDOT is recruiting part-time truck drivers for winter and offering flexible eight-hour shifts in the Springfield area, with starting pay at $22.91 per hour in the Ozarks and $25.91 near Kansas City and St. Louis—drivers must hold a commercial license while full-time applicants can receive CDL training. The department says the program will help cover last winter’s driver shortages to keep roads safely maintained during harsh weather. KY3
- ➤ Registered Missouri voters began casting absentee ballots yesterday for the November 4 Special Election. In Greene County—voters may cast ballots in person at the Elections Center at 1126 N. Boonville Ave Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with mailed ballots required to be received by Election Day. KY3
- ➤ The Greene County Clerk's Office announced that absentee voting for the November 4 special election began on Sept. 23 to decide on a 3% lodging tax increase for a new regional convention center. Voters may cast ballots in person at the Elections Center at 1126 N. Boonville Ave Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—mail ballots must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 22 or by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. OzarksFirst.com
