- ➤ A candlelight vigil on Sept. 22 at Missouri State University honored conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10 at an event, as about two thousand community members gathered—under visible police security—to remember his legacy. - ➤ Residents in the Grant Beach neighborhood are invited to share their ideas for park improvements from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Weaver Elementary School (1461 N. Douglas Ave.) as the Grant Beach Neighborhood Association and Springfield-Greene County Park Board host a survey session to help create a long-term plan for Grant Beach Park. OzarksFirst.com

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Monday morning, Springfield police began investigating a threat when two bullets—one marked with the word DIE and the other with a hateful slur—were found outside the GLO Center on Commercial Street, leading its executive to close the center for the day and cancel meetings. The center will update its community via social media while authorities continue their inquiry. KSMU
- ➤ Springfield’s GLO Center closed on Monday after staff found rifle cartridges with words etched on them—police are investigating the threat and center leaders fear the incident may affect Ozarks PrideFest and prompt tighter security measures. KY3
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri State University unveiled its five-year strategic plan on Monday in Springfield during President Richard B. Williams’ State of the University Address. The plan — called "Igniting Opportunity" — sets five goals for academics, community connection and branding and establishes annual accountability checkpoints to track progress. KY3
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation warns Springfield drivers to be extra alert during deer breeding season as deer cross roads more often—especially early in the morning and at dusk. They urge drivers to avoid swerving when a deer is seen to reduce the risk of a crash. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike McClure—reporting with KY3’s Jackie Garrity—warned teenage drivers in Springfield about the dangers of wet roads and stressed that extra caution is needed on slick surfaces. KY3
- ➤ The Springfield City Council approved a three-percent rate increase for City Utilities in early 2027, a revised plan for Chimney Hills to build 29 single-family homes, and an ordinance requiring businesses to show proof of paid property taxes during Monday’s meeting. They also approved a $3 million bid from Hartman and Company to replace the Scenic Avenue Bridge—construction is set to close the street for about four months and aims to finish by next summer. KY3
- ➤ Greene County is starting a comprehensive plan to guide growth for the next 10 to 15 years and update outdated zoning rules—residents can share their input at public meetings on Sept. 25, Oct. 2, and Oct. 9 while staff use surveys and data over the next 18 months to shape future decisions. - ➤ The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame announced the Price Cutter Charity Championship will not be held in 2026 at Highland Springs Country Club because the tour and the club could not agree on a June date—recent tournaments have been held in July or August.
