- ➤ Centerstone has named new leaders ahead of its merger with Brightli and Children's Mercy has named an interim leader for its new pediatric service, while WOW will host a free two-day National Hunting & Fishing Day festival on Sept. 27-28 to honor Native American heritage—featuring family-friendly activities and live entertainment. The city will hold a free SGF Business Lab workshop for entrepreneurs on Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—and the Library Foundation received a historic $2.34M estate gift to support local library projects. - ➤ Due to high demand, Springfield's Gillioz Theatre will add a second show for comedian Josh Johnson, a writer for The Daily Show, on Saturday, Dec 13. He will perform at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.—his tour continues to draw large crowds. Springfield News-Leader
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Girls on the Run of Southwest Missouri offers an after-school program that teaches girls vital life skills and builds their confidence through running activities. Over the next few weeks the program will train hundreds of girls to prepare for a 5K run at Missouri State University in November — where they learn to build teamwork and healthy habits. - ➤ Travis Shaw, deputy superintendent of operations at SPS, announced his retirement effective June 30 after returning two months ago from paid administrative leave that followed an investigation into alleged misconduct at a spring work gathering. SPS is now searching for his replacement—Shaw served 29 years in education and managed major projects during his nine-year tenure. Springfield News-Leader
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Public Works reported that 82% of storm debris has been picked up since August, with 38,834 cubic yards collected and Zones 2 and 4 at 64% and 65% respectively—cleanup in Zones 1 and 3 is complete and a full city sweep is expected to finish by the end of October. OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ The City of Springfield will reopen the southern section of LeCompte Road at Division Street on Tuesday after completing paving, signing, and striping, and Phase 2 will begin near the railroad tracks as drivers are urged to follow detour signage via U.S. Highway 65—construction is set to continue until December.
