- ➤ Newborns in Need has begun a sleeper drive to collect warm baby clothes for families in the Ozarks as winter approaches. Health departments and volunteers will distribute the donations across six counties (Douglas, Laclede, Webster, Wright, and Ozark) to ensure babies have the supplies they need. KY3

- ➤ The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale will run Sept. 17—21 at the E—Plex, Ozark Empire Fairgrounds at 3001 N. Grant Ave. with a preview sale on Sept. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. where most books cost $1 or $2 and up as the funds raised support library programs. Springfield News-Leader

- ➤ Missouri State University will start its 22nd annual Public Affairs Conference on Sept.16 with free public sessions on topics like art, science and mental health, and keynote speaker David Feherty will speak at 7 p.m. in Juanita K. - ➤ Missouri State's Bears lost 28-10 in their first home FBS game against SMU on Sept. 13 but showed they can compete with top teams despite mistakes.
