EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri State University celebrated the $80 million, 77,000-square-foot addition to Blunt Hall on September 12th with speeches from leaders including Roy Blunt and Governor Mike Kehoe. The new addition includes modern labs, offices and a refrigerator farm using a backup generator to protect research samples, and it will advance science studies as renovation of the original building finishes next fall. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hummingbirds are increasing in Missouri at the end of summer and beginning of fall and experts urge residents to fill feeders with a mix of one part sugar to four parts water — without red dye — to support the birds' long migration. OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ Springfield’s Dickerson Park Zoo announced twin Chacoan peccaries were born on September 11 from mom Relish and dad Flash—part of the Species Survival Plan to help save this endangered species from the Gran Chaco region. KY3
- ➤ The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is tracking Monarch butterflies as they emerge for their southward journey and visitors can see chrysalises becoming ready for flight. - ➤ The Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission recommended against the new University Heights office plans at the northwest corner of National and Sunshine Street—sending the matter to City Council for a final decision later this month. KY3

- ➤ Art Hains, the Voice of the Bears for over 40 years, will call his final Missouri State game today against SMU (his alma mater) as the team hosts its first FBS home opener.
