  • Four Missouri grocery store chains were named among USA TODAY 10BEST top grocery stores for 2025 after experts reviewed value, selection, and service—store locators will help residents find a nearby branch.  Springfield News-Leader

CRIME NEWS

  • Drury University said today that after a hand-drawn target was found on an exterior door of the Hammons School of Architecture and a student saw a red dot, campus staff moved students indoors while Drury Security & the Springfield Police Department used drones and cameras to search for any threat—no further evidence was found and more personnel will stay on campus.  OzarksFirst.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 63rd-annual Steam-O-Rama event started on Sept. 11 in Ash Grove and will continue through Sept. 14 at the historic Whinrey Homestead off State Highway O, featuring live steam engines, tractor demonstrations, a daily parade and various family activities. Admission costs $10 per person, and children 12 and under are free with an adult.  OzarksFirst.com
  • SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Cider Days will occur along Historic Walnut Street on September 20th and 21st from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring regional artists, food vendors, live music and a new Hold Fast Beer Garden that will serve Springfield craft beer alongside Brick River Cider.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Springfield National Cemetery was named one of Missouri’s top three cemeteries in a survey by Choice Mutual that ranked it 98th nationally and second in the state—its neat white headstones, historic cannons and scattered oaks give it a distinctive charm.  OzarksFirst.com
  • On Thursday morning, dozens of people climbed the stairs at Plaster Stadium at MSU to honor victims of the September 11 attack and the War on Terror—organizers from The Warrior’s Journey and MSU veteran groups raised funds to support veterans. The event marked 24 years of remembrance for nearly three thousand lives lost.  KY3

  • Educators in Springfield are debating how to use AI in classrooms as teachers save time with digital tools while district rules block most chatbots on student devices. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, severe drought now affects Springfield and parts of the Ozarks. Rainfall in the past 90 days was about half the normal amount and less than one-fifth in the past 30 days — conditions that are expected to worsen until rain chances improve later next week.  OzarksFirst.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri State will host SMU tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Plaster Sports Complex—stadium upgrades include improved lighting, seating and a new tailgate area as fans prepare for clear bag entry for security.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • At 2-0, Catholic is riding a five-win streak as it prepares to seek a 3-0 start today at Strafford—its best season start since 2011. Other local games feature Logan-Rogersville facing Parkview—adding key early challenges for Springfield’s high school football teams.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Two St. Louis Cardinals players—Nolan Arenado and Brendan Donovan—rehabbed at Hammons Field after injuries earlier this week. Arenado, recovering from a shoulder injury, said he planned changes this offseason to improve his play, while Donovan returned after a groin strain and was set to rejoin his team soon.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Kyler Reece led the Ash Grove offense to a 2-0 start by posting 543 yards and eight touchdowns after returning from Tommy John surgery.
