  • Springfield’s Workshop Industrial Solutions opened a new doggy daycare — it has provided jobs for people with developmental disabilities for over 50 years — to serve local pet owners.  KY3
  • Commercial Street Advocate Mary Collette appeared on the radio show Sharing Stories of the Crossroads—hosted at the History Museum on the Square—to discuss the history and future of Commercial Street.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Longtime community staple Uncle Bently's was sold in August while former staff and loyal patrons gathered in July to honor retiring owner Jack Horton and the pub’s family-like atmosphere. New owners Darryl and Jennifer Barr will keep the cherished name — planning minor changes including adding a full bar and kitchen — to continue its legacy.  Springfield News-Leader

  • Great Escape Beer Works will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at its new location, 6021 U.S. Highway 60 in Brookline — the event was rescheduled after lightning damaged its chiller pump in July.  OzarksFirst.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Dickerson Park Zoo has teamed with Ecocell to offer a cell phone recycling drop-off box at its gift shop to reduce lithium mining that harms Chilean Flamingos' habitat — visitors can recycle old devices to help fund conservation efforts.  OzarksFirst.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grant Ave. Parkway project in central Springfield is nearing completion—city officials say the $25-million renovation will finish by the end of the year. The project adds street, greenway, walking and biking improvements—creating a better link between downtown and the Wonders of Wildlife/Bass Pro Shops complex.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Andrew Bailey began his transition from Missouri Attorney General to Deputy Director of the FBI on September 8 — his letter underlined his fight against federal overreach. He said he will finish his service in Washington and then return to Missouri — promising to keep protecting local families.  KY3
  • Springfield Public Works has collected 23,000 cubic yards of storm debris since August 11 and is working with Environmental Services to decide how to dispose of it at the Yardwaste Recycling Center—options include chipping or a controlled burn.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Kansas Expressway Phase 2 will be completed by Sept. 30 and will add a four-way stop at the junction of Kansas Expressway, Cox Road, and Farm Road 190 in Springfield—drivers already see electronic signs and crews are finishing work on road markings and signs. Future plans will extend the road toward Campbell Avenue, though no timeline has been set.  KY3
  • Missouri voters and lawmakers are clashing over two constitutional amendment proposals set for the 2026 ballot. The Respect Missouri Voters Coalition will collect about 300000 signatures while state lawmakers propose a rule requiring a majority vote in each of eight congressional districts—raising questions over fair direct democracy—.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Missouri health officials stressed that vaccines are safe and work to protect public health. Data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services show that while kindergartners hold nearly 90% full immunization rates and 8th graders are even higher, vaccine exemptions have increased slightly over the past few years — officials point to decades of research that proves the benefits of vaccinations.  KY3
