COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way Ozarks Region raised $1.84 million in the 2024 campaign and will honor community leaders today at Mother’s Brewing Company BarrelHouse in Springfield. Guests can check in at 4 p.m. to see Impact Awards presented to Good Dads, Mercy, Jen Johnson, Lindsey Dumas-Bell, Mary Ling, Katoya Eaton and Mandy Mrotek — each recognized for their community change efforts.  OzarksFirst.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A fatal crash on Sunday evening in west Springfield killed Cullen Beshers when his motorcycle was struck by a car turning south at West Bypass and Grand Street, and police arrested local driver Jimmy Waweru—accused of DWI—for the incident.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Discovery Center of Springfield will host its 10th Night at the Museum fundraiser on Saturday, September 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at 438 E. St. Louis St.—the adults-only event will feature hands-on science exhibits, themed cocktails, and entertainment to support STEM education across the Ozarks.  OzarksFirst.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former mayor Ken McClure is set to be inducted into the SPS Hall of Fame along with game developer Warren Robinett and bestselling author Nancy Allen as part of a luncheon on Oct. 16 at White River Conference Center — tickets cost $40 and are on sale through Sept. 26.  Springfield News-Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal officials filed a lawsuit against White River Brewery and owner Jennifer Obert to cancel the transfer of the business, alleging the move was made to evade debt collection. The suit—filed in early September—comes after Michael Felts pleaded guilty to a wire fraud conspiracy involving COVID-relief loans and was later sentenced.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • On Sept. 2, Nixa’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted to annex nearly 100 acres for Moore Estates, a project that will add 234 houses if approved by City Council. City staff raised water supply concerns—while the developer argued the plan would bring needed growth.  Springfield Daily Citizen

HEALTH NEWS

  • Springfield restaurants were inspected for health code violations from Sept. 1—5, and several locations corrected issues on site while others were scheduled for reinspection. The inspections found problems with food temperature and storage at a few eateries, while many facilities met the required standards.  OzarksFirst.com
