COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Children with Down syndrome from the Ozarks and their families gathered in New York City on September 6 for the annual National Down Syndrome Society Times Square Video Presentation—several kids were featured in a slideshow and some families joined a Buddy Walk in Central Park to show their support.  KY3
  • The seventh annual Missouri Vietnam Wall Run will take place Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20 as riders will depart Springfield Friday morning and travel through several towns to end in Perryville with a candlelight vigil for veterans—on Saturday, routes from Festus and Perryville will converge in Fredericktown for a Parade of Honor and a ceremony featuring guest speaker Col.   • Rescue and shelter volunteers in Springfield report capacity problems because of pet dumping, low spay/neuter rates, and increased pet returns after COVID—factors that have boosted owner surrenders. Volunteers advise families to try short-term fostering—allowing them to check if a pet fits before committing to adoption.  KY3

SPORTS NEWS

  • Glendale junior receivers Joelle Rover and Trevor Heman combined for five touchdowns from quarterback Cash Newberry in a 44-12 win over Willard on September 5 in Springfield+their strong play helped build the Falcons’ momentum. Coach Frank Tristan said the duo’s performance+which featured a 71-yard touchdown by Heman and three scores by Rover set high expectations for the season.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State University beat Marshall 21—20 on Saturday as the Bears earned their first FBS win. Quarterback Jacob Clark threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns—completing an 80 yard drive that ended with an 8 yard scoring pass to Jeron Askren with 2:12 left in the game.  KY3
