- ➤ On Tuesday, Sept. 2, work began on fixing the elevators at Jenny Lind Apartments after tenants had used only stairs for over a year. The project will take 9 to 12 weeks to finish as it helps make housing more accessible for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents. OzarksFirst.com

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police responded at 10:30 a.m. today to a stabbing on the 700 block of North Jonathan—where two victims were injured, one critically and the other in stable condition—as officers use a K9 to search for a suspect near West Bypass and Chestnut in north Springfield. KY3
- ➤ Two people were stabbed in west Springfield on Tuesday morning in the 700 block of N. Jonathan — one victim is in critical condition and police have taken a suspect into custody while setting two perimeters and deploying K9 units. OzarksFirst.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri State University launched the Bears Share pilot program to help students in need by providing leftover food from campus events; organizers use a Microsoft form to alert students who then have 20 minutes to pick up food with provided or personal containers — a system designed to reduce food waste and address food insecurity. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The new south Springfield license office will open by Oct. 8 at the Liberty Commons Shopping Center on Campbell Avenue—operated by the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. - ➤ Mayor Schrag admitted he made a mistake by voting for a business license ordinance that requires proof of personal property tax payment and asked staff to draft a bill to suspend its enforcement and send it to committee (a move council member Hosmer says skips proper review), while council will vote on the proposal on Sept 8. - ➤ Data from Missouri Division of Youth Services shows that the number of children committed to the system increased from 366 in 2021 to 577 in 2024 with nearly three-fourths of the youth being 15—17 years old and 81 percent being male. The report shows that 53 percent had mental health services and 59 percent had substance abuse issues—figures that reveal ongoing challenges. KY3
