COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Springfield-Greene County Library District is offering six limited-edition library card designs in September for residents registering or swapping their cards at any branch or the Mobile Library while supplies last. The district also is holding a referral contest that enters new sign-ups into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.  Springfield News-Leader

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Nixa boy, Elias Reid Highfill (nearly 3), drowned in a pool at his grandparents’ house last June and his donated organs saved five lives across the Midwest, his family said.  KY3
  • On Sunday afternoon, a tire on a vehicle near Exit 61 on I-44 blew—sparking a quarter-mile long grass fire that stalled multiple vehicles and caused a minor injury when a girl was pushed by her seatbelt.  OzarksFirst.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield’s storm debris removal is behind schedule due to high volumes collected after the April 29 and June 29 storms—over 18,300 cubic tons have been gathered since Aug. 11 and Zone 4 will be cleared after Labor Day on Sept. 2 when debris must be at the curb by 7 a.m. The city is adding extra crews and a tree service to help residents manage larger items as it works on disposal plans.  Springfield News-Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri State fans from Springfield and nearby areas traveled to Los Angeles on Friday for an event at UCLA before watching the Bears play USC in their first FBS game on August 30 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum—many flew in through LAX and felt proud of their team.  Springfield Daily Citizen
