COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Springfield will host a dog swim event at Fassnight Park and Pool on Sept. 2 from 4—7 p.m.—registration is due by Sept. 1 with fees of $8 per dog-human pair and an extra $3 for each additional person while the pool closes for the season. Branson will hold its dog swim event at AquaPlex on Sept. 1 from 6:30—8 p.m.—online registration ends Aug. 31 with fees of $6 if registered online or $8 at the door, and dogs must be kept leashed with a handler.  OzarksFirst.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Utilities finished its 26-year project to install an 11.25-mile 48-inch water main that now provides a more reliable water supply to the Blackman Water Treatment Plant. The pipeline included air release valves and special casings — measures that will help prevent future service interruptions.  OzarksFirst.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Crews began demolition last week of the former Zio’s restaurant off South National Avenue—Zio’s closed after a kitchen fire in June 2020 and no new plans have been announced.  KY3

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri State University celebrated its entrance into Conference USA Tuesday evening—hosting a pep rally with food trucks, inflatables for kids and football video games—and marked its first season as a Division One FBS program. The athletic department said the Bears will open football season on Saturday at USC—bringing a new platform for televised games.  KY3
