- ➤ More than a year after Pastor Christie Love resigned, the Connecting Grounds Outreach Center still serves unsheltered people at 3000 W. Chestnut Expressway by offering hot meals, clothing, and social services through community and private donations—staffing programs that include Medicaid help and harm reduction support. Funding is down and the center will limit street outreach this winter due to a lack of essential supplies. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Local Navy sailors began Navy Week events on August 25th by visiting Wonders of Wildlife to share their history, oceanography and meteorology with the local community. Education Manager Ashlee Rowen said the museum welcomes military and veteran guests—upcoming activities include a Blue Angels show and a talk by Captain Christopher 'Chowdah' Hill on Friday. - ➤ An 11-year-old girl from Olathe was seriously injured on Aug. 23 when a boat propeller struck her as she helped a swimmer at Table Rock Lake—she was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Mercy Springfield and no others were injured. Springfield News-Leader
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Springfield police said that on August 24 at 1:37 p.m. at 3307 West Lombard, they found two adults and one juvenile with gunshot wounds after Ryan Parnell shot Jessica Parnell and Aaliyah Perkins, set the home on fire and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound—detectives are still investigating the case. - ➤ A Springfield man pleaded guilty yesterday to leaving the scene of an accident at a Kum & Go on South Campbell Avenue on Feb 27 that caused $3,700 in damage—he blamed his Crocs for getting caught in the pedal and received five years of supervised probation with a warning of potential jail time if he violates its conditions. - ➤ The Springfield Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and eight local agencies arrested 27 impaired drivers and made 419 vehicle stops during a 10-hour patrol on Aug. 23—MADD organized the effort that also led to nine arrests for drug possession or warrants, recovery of a stolen vehicle and the location of a missing person. - ➤ The Alliance of Healthcare Education broke ground on a new campus at CoxHealth North Hospital to offer a free health care program for high school students and partnered with Burrell Health to expand opportunities in behavioral health.
