COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers from Bass Pro Shops and Farmer Dan from Fassnight Creek Farms worked to clean a well-known garden spot along Fassnight Creek on Saturday morning in Springfield. The next cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 13—organizers say it will help keep local water safe.  KY3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Springfield man died in a single-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon on Missouri Route 32—three miles west of Bolivar—at around 4:15 p.m., when troopers said he was not wearing his seatbelt and the 26-year-old female driver was uninjured.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In Missouri, employers will not have to give paid sick leave starting Aug. 28—Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a bill to end the rules set by a measure approved nine months ago. People who worked since May 1 may lose the leave they earned—up to 22 hours for a typical 40-hour week.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Developer Ralph Duda hosted a small meeting at National and Sunshine to discuss rezoning his property but walked out amid accusations of 'predatory' practices—he said he will rezone the site for lighter Office 2 uses with a proposal set for presentation to the Planning and Zoning Commission on September 11. Duda added he is willing to sell the property if the rezoning moves forward, ending his current development approach.  OzarksFirst.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Even though summer is almost over and kids are back in school, many families are boating on lakes in the Ozarks, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol has recorded more than 20 drownings this year. Local experts—like boat towing worker Jim Pulley and State Park Marina manager Mitch Schupp—say everyone should wear a properly fitting life jacket and call 911 if an emergency occurs.  KY3

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In July, Greene County's median home listing price dropped 1.4% to $324,950 from $329,499 with homes averaging 1,873 square feet at $168 per square foot—new listings increased by 11.5% over last July and homes stayed on the market for a median 47 days. Springfield metro area listings also fell slightly to $337,699 for homes averaging 1,920 square feet.  Springfield News-Leader

  • Missouri State head coach Ryan Beard said defensive end Davon Townley Jr. has improved his play and confidence after transferring from Penn State—he now leads a talented group on one of the deepest defensive lines in camp.
