EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Springfield Board of Education considered a proposal that would let 3,500 SPS employees choose between Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Mercy for health coverage. Deputy Superintendent Travis Shaw presented details at Tuesday, Aug. 19 meeting at the Kraft Administrative Center — the plan would raise costs by about 3% while adding benefits like partial GLP-1 drug coverage and keeping Metlife dental insurance. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield has opened the next phase of its Regional Convention and Event Center project by inviting qualified firms to apply as the construction manager at risk. Shortlisted firms will be notified Sept. 8 with interviews on Sept. 10 and final contract negotiations ending by Sept. 24—this $175 million project will be funded by state money, local tax revenue, and a bond issue on the Nov. 4 ballot.
