- ➤ A 1961 photograph shows Miss Springfield with Blue Angels pilots including Lt. Dan CacIntyre and Lt. Lew Chatham—part of a local library series highlighting historical images. The Blue Angels will perform from August 30 to September 1 at the Branson Wings of Pride Air Show at the Branson Airport—promising precise aerial demonstrations. Springfield News-Leader
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Evangel University is undergoing major construction to expand its campus for a growing student body. President Mike Rakes said the projects include new lighted sidewalks, 250 parking spaces, and the Flood Residence Hall expected to open by fall — a key step to ease capacity challenges. KY3
- ➤ Springfield-Greene County Library District will offer several August programs including a cybersecurity class at Schweitzer Brentwood Branch on August 21, a smoothie-making workshop for kids at Midtown Carnegie Branch on August 23, a museum collection discussion later that day, and a genealogy introduction class at the Library Center auditorium on August 26 (registration is required for some events). - ➤ Nixa Public Schools Superintendent Gearl Loden is a finalist for the national Superintendent of the Year award with the winner to be picked by the National Association of School Superintendents. - ➤ The 141st USA Archery Target Nationals ended on August 17 in Springfield at Betty & Bobby Allison Sports Town—drawing over 400 archers and bringing about $1.35 million into the city.
