COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival, Military Warriors Support Foundation and Chevy Dealers of the Ozarks honored former Marine Corps Corporal Jonathon Letner for his service in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Hawaii. They gave him a new 2025 Chevy Silverado + the award came from the Chevrolet Everyday Heroes program + his honor shows his sacrifice.  KY3
  • Generations Village, Missouri’s first community that brings together foster families, aging youth and seniors, is nearly complete in Willard and will have 52 homes—12 for foster families, 36 for seniors and eight for youth. The project will also include a community building, sports center, garden and playground to help neighbors support one another.  Springfield Daily Citizen

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Springfield business owners Darryl and Jennifer Barr purchased Uncle Bently’s Pub and Lounge on Aug. 4 and plan to keep its heritage from 1978 with minor technological and signage upgrades. They will add food offerings in the future by catering from Georgia Mac’s and coordinating local food trucks—moves aimed at reviving this well-known local landmark.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CRIME NEWS

  • A four-year-old child died after shooting themself with a gun on Friday when officers responded at 12:15 p.m. to a call at the 900 block of North Fulbright Ave and the child was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead by 4 p.m.—the investigation is still ongoing.  OzarksFirst.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Springfield is hosting the annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival this weekend to honor the city’s historic role with the Mother Road—kicking off Friday at noon with a classic car show. The event offers a parade at 6:00 p.m. from Grant Ave. to National Ave., nightly drone shows over Motorcycle Village, and free parking for visitors.  OzarksFirst.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School buses will return to Springfield roads on August 19 with students aboard, and drivers are urged to slow down and stop when buses display yellow lights or extend their stop signs. State troopers and school officials note that bus cameras and panic buttons will help capture violations for police follow-up.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Aug. 6, the Ozark Region Workforce Development Board decided not to issue RFPs for its workforce programs and will keep the city on monthly renewals. Board Chair Andrea Sitzes said City Manager David Cameron’s strong leadership helped ease past tensions—now the board will fund a report and send members on study trips to learn best practices for future planning.  Springfield Daily Citizen

HEALTH NEWS

  • CoxHealth has set up 15 cooling stations and on-site medical staff at the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival today to treat heat-related emergencies for the 65,000 expected attendees. Festival workers are handing out water — urging everyone to drink early to avoid heat illness.  KY3
