- ➤ Silver Springs Reunion Club held a park day reunion last Friday at Silver Springs Park to celebrate family, the Ozarks, and Springfield’s black community (the park was once the only public space open to black residents during segregation). The club is hosting a dance, a car show, and a golf tournament over the weekend for families from near and far. OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ The Springfield-Greene County Library’s Brentwood Card Table program brings seniors together at its southeast Springfield branch twice a month for card games and conversation. David Gray, a library staff member and former teacher, said the program helps seniors get out and learn new games (such as three through 13) while enjoying social time. KSMU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Marty Marsh joined the Missouri Department of Conservation in July as the new education district supervisor for the 17-county Southwest Region — she will work with school leaders to add conservation topics to classrooms by promoting the Discover Nature Schools program and the Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program. - ➤ Missouri Conservation agents warn residents not to eat white mushrooms found in circles and toxic green-spored lipeota, which can look safe. They urge people to use guides—like online pages and printed books—to check mushroom types before eating them. KY3
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A Mercy Curry Cancer Center in Lebanon now offers breast cancer treatment so patients in Laclede County avoid long drives. Debbie Waterman, who began treatment in January 2024 and finished chemo five months ago, said the center provides many support services — including transportation help — during her recovery. KY3
