CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lorenzo Castro-Manzanarez, a Springfield restaurant owner, pleaded guilty on Monday, July 28 to employing undocumented immigrants and using falsified documents to staff his restaurants — he admitted that he continued hiring undocumented workers and providing them housing after his release on bond to keep his businesses profitable. - ➤ Springfield Police warned drivers not to leave their vehicles running to cool off in the heat since criminals can steal cars in just five seconds—officers advise opening doors and windows while using the air conditioner to quickly lower the temperature. KY3

- ➤ Missourians can buy select back-to-school items without paying sales tax during the tax-free weekend. The offer starts at 12:01 a.m. on August 1 and ends at midnight on August 3, covering clothing, school supplies, and computers. Springfield News-Leader

- ➤ Preschoolers at Tiger Paw Early Childhood Center in Ozark will receive free tuition from a $780,000 MO Quality Pre-K Grant provided by the state education department—covering 120 students who will turn four by the end of July and begin kindergarten in the 2026—2027 school year. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mt. Vernon Street will be closed between Lulwood and Miller Avenue starting Aug. 11 for about six weeks as the City installs new sidewalk segments for pedestrian safety—this project also upgrades stormwater drainage, sewer, gas, and water lines. Mike Kehoe requested a disaster declaration on July 25, the U.S. Small Business Administration now offers low-interest disaster loans to residents, businesses and nonprofits affected by the June 29 storms—loans range up to $2 million for business repairs and up to $100,000 for personal property. Applicants in Greene County can visit the Disaster Loan Outreach Center at 330 W.
