COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redemption Ranch Therapy Horses in Nixa rescued mini horses & donkeys and delivered them to local schools and nursing homes to provide animal therapy.  KY3
  • Peter Csere, a co-founder of the whites-only group Return to the Land, said he defended himself in a stabbing incident in Ecuador and left the country in 2023 while planning a new homestead near Springfield. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • State troopers are investigating a crash on Interstate 71 South near milepost 208 in Westfield Township where a 2020 Nissan Armada carrying a Springfield family hydroplaned and struck a parked commercial truck just before 7:30 p.m. on July 28th—killing father Ryan Broyles Sr and injuring his wife, an adult child and three minors while the truck driver remained unharmed.  OzarksFirst.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Aurora School District began training with school resource officers to improve safety under Senate Bill 68, which takes effect August 28. The law requires districts to develop a blood loss protocol by January 1 for use in the next school year—ensuring staff and teachers are prepared for emergencies.  KY3
  • A WalletHub study ranked Missouri last in early education, checking pre-K access, quality, and spending. The study found Missouri scored 38th in pre-K access, was second-to-last in quality, and ranked 32nd in economic support—showing a need for improvement.  OzarksFirst.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield voters will decide on Nov. 4 whether to raise the hotel tax by 3% to help fund a new convention center after the City Council approved the measure by an 8-0 vote on July 28.
