- ➤ Fellows Lake in north Springfield offers boating, hiking, biking, fishing and a new inclusive playground for families — along with 27 miles of trails and safe boating limits — making it a top spot for day-use recreation. Kelce Fritz, the lake’s operations director, said the park is managed to keep our water safe for everyone. Springfield Daily Citizen
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Greene County deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Springfield are searching for 15-year-old Xayden Cook, who went missing from his home at 5520 S. Aaron Ave on July 27 at 10 p.m.—he is a white male, 5’10” tall and 170 lbs with blond hair with blue streaks, blue eyes and scars on both arms, and he was last seen wearing a t-shirt, sweatpants and flip-flops after leaving home following a suicide note. - ➤ Domestic violence cases rose during the summer in the Ozarks, according to KY3’s Jackie Garrity and Harmony House’s Jared Alexander. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials celebrated the groundbreaking of a new animal shelter on July 25, 2025 & construction at 3303 W. Division St. is underway to replace the old facility on N. Farmer Ave.; the shelter will feature new office space and canine housing and is set to be completed early next year. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Springfield Fire Department urged residents to check their smoke alarms (one per floor and sleeping area) after fires this year caused four deaths and five major injuries. The department offers free installation and consultation, and appointments may be scheduled by calling (417-874-2300). OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ On July 28, Governor Mike Kehoe delivered his first Springfield address where he explained that the state budget added 450 new items with more funding for education, child care, and public safety while noting that his vetoes and restrictions affected local projects. He said he will work with local officials to secure matching funds for a new convention center—this comes as the city reviews a ballot measure to raise its hotel tax amid economic uncertainty.
