ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Forsyth family is mourning 14-year-old Mila McDonald, who died when a car driven by a 16-year-old left the road and hit an embankment on State Highway 165 near Hollister shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday—two other teens were injured and the driver was taken to a Springfield hospital. KY3
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Dillard’s has revealed its new 180,000‐square‐foot store at Battlefield Mall and will host a premier night tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. to benefit Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks — the store brings together two former sites from a closed Sears location. It will have soft openings on Saturday, July 26th (11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) and Sunday, July 27th (11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) — a grand opening and ribbon cutting is planned on Thursday, July 31st. - ➤ Springfield Police are searching for 28-year-old Brienna Kaye Barnard after she was last seen at 6:20 p.m. July 23 around W. Mt. Vernon Street in Springfield—she left a residence and is reported to have mental health issues while her white Chrysler 300 with a maroon hood and roof was seen traveling in an unknown direction. - ➤ Maddie Bennett turned her college show Funky Fresh FM into Funky Fresh (FM) to book and document local musicians in Springfield at venues like Mother’s Brewing Company. Her business now supports a tight-knit D.I.Y. music community that gives local artists a space to share their talent. KSMU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Public Schools is enforcing a new cell phone and electronic device policy for the 2025-2026 school year that requires students to turn off and store personal devices during school hours. The change follows a state law signed by Governor Mike Kehoe that bans cell phones, smartwatches, headphones, and wireless earbuds from use or display in class. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new federal rule now requires car seat manufacturers to test for side-impact safety at 30 mph plus adjust weight limits on infant and forward-facing seats. Car seats from recent years remain safe as long as they are up-to-date and not expired. KY3
- ➤ The City Council will hold a public hearing on July 28 on a proposed 3% hotel/motel tax increase — if approved, it will appear on the November ballot to help fund a new convention center. City leaders say the plan can cover up to $145 million in debt service — a key part of meeting the state's matching requirement for the project. Springfield Daily Citizen

- ➤ A Greene County family found several bats in their home in September 2024 and received rabies vaccines after one bat entered while the children slept.
