ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A residential fire on Friday night in the 1200 block of West Walnut Street claimed one life when firefighters rescued a person who was taken to Mercy Hospital and later died—fire officials continue to investigate the cause.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CRIME NEWS

  • James Brady, 45, died on July 12 in west Springfield when he collided with a car turning left at the Glenn Avenue and State Street intersection — he was not wearing a helmet and later died at the hospital.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CULTURE NEWS

  • Folk singer Lyal Strickland returned to the stage today at the Gillioz Theatre in Springfield—marking his revival after a nine-year break. He recorded his Ghost Light Session to be shared online and will release his live extended play album on July 18 while planning a full-length album in 2026.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, July 10th, the Alliance for Healthcare Education approved a guaranteed maximum price of $15 million for DeWitt and Associates to renovate 40,000 square feet at Cox College, turning unused space into classrooms, labs, study areas and offices & adding an atrium and restrooms; demolition has begun and a groundbreaking will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 25 while classes will begin this fall.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State University said golf analyst David Feherty will be the keynote speaker on Sept. 16 at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts during its Public Affairs Conference 2025. A VIP reception will be held at 5 p.m. before his talk and the keynote is free and open to the public—sponsored by the Missouri State Foundation with support from KY3.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill on July 14 would let the Springfield Fire Department and the Brookline Fire Protection District call on each other for help during emergencies—each bringing unique resources when calls increase. The measure was discussed at a city council meeting at the police and fire training center on West Battlefield at 6:30 p.m.—fire chiefs said the move would ease their workload during overwhelming situations.  KY3
  • Republic’s new wastewater management facility is on track to be completed late 2026 even after Gov. Mike Kehoe vetoed $25 million in state funds, and city officials said the $150 million project is fully funded by bonds, ARPA, and other sources. Construction began in April 2023 and is proceeding on schedule to meet Missouri Department of Natural Resources regulations — the facility will boost treatment capacity by nearly 60%.  Springfield Daily Citizen
