CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield will host the 89th Annual Ozark Empire Fair from July 24 — Aug. 2 with free daily attractions, exciting rides, live music starting at 7:30 p.m., and new food options like boba drinks and mini doughnuts. The fair will also offer special pricing days and free admission for seniors 80+ and service members with valid ID.  OzarksFirst.com
  • John Lindell, the longtime pastor of James River Church, addressed rumors about the church leaving the Assemblies of God and said his ministerial credentials were dismissed—an action he noted is common when churches separate. He added that he had raised concerns with local ministry leaders and that he and his wife will step down as lead pastors in March 2027—steps taken to secure the church's future.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families sending their first child to college next month are advised to review basic car care + set financial plans so students can handle emergencies and manage budgets independently.  KY3
  • MSU's renovated Blunt Hall is already hosting students who use modern labs and improved systems funded by federal COVID recovery money. The building will officially open for classes on Aug. 18 and brings together upgraded lab spaces, efficient environmental controls, and shared interdisciplinary areas—promising a boost to science education.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents and businesses in Springfield affected by the April 29 storm may apply for low-interest federal disaster loans to cover repair and replacement costs, with rates as low as 2.81% for homeowners and renters. The SBA said payments will not be due for 12 months+ physical damage applications must be submitted by Aug. 22.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed Danny’s Law today—named for Danny Santulli who suffered permanent brain damage in 2021 after a fraternity hazing incident—to address hazing concerns. The law will bring new safety measures—such as increased oversight of fraternities—to help protect students.  KY3
  • Following the storms in April and June, Springfield residents can drop off yard waste at the Yardwaste Recycling Center, open Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—large debris like trees and root balls must go to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill open Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. For those needing help, volunteers will assist on Thursday, July 17th after residents register by Monday.  KY3
