BUSINESS NEWS

  • Travelers at Springfield-Branson National Airport now have faster, free Wi-Fi as a partnership with City Utilities’ SpringNet boosts speeds to 10Gbps—improving service for both the main and general aviation terminals. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is hiring recruits for the 126th class with salaries starting at $66,432 and training set to begin April 20, 2026.  Springfield News-Leader

CRIME NEWS

  • A 10-year-old girl was left paralyzed after being caught in a crossfire of a shooting on June 30 in Springfield—police say a 16-year-old suspect is in custody facing four felony charges with a court decision on trying him as an adult scheduled for August 18.  Springfield News-Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri State University Foundation raised $31 million in the fiscal year ended June 30, with $24 million coming as cash & in-kind support from 19,707 donors. The gifts funded projects like the new university center, interior renewal, academic scholarships and faculty support.  Springfield News-Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a bill that will repeal paid sick leave for workers who began accruing it May 1 & set the repeal to take effect August 28. The law also stops the annual inflation adjustment to the minimum wage, which was raised to $13.75 Jan. 1 and is scheduled to increase again Jan. 1.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Flyers at Springfield-Branson National Airport have mixed views on the TSA rule change that ended the long-standing practice of removing shoes during screening. Some passengers think the change speeds up the process while others miss the old safety checks—this shift marks the end of a nearly 20-year-old regulation.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Governor Mike Kehoe announced appointments today and named Ken McClure — former Springfield mayor — to the Missouri Ethics Commission. McClure has served in many city and state roles, including work at Missouri State University and as Chief of Staff for Governor Matt Blunt.  OzarksFirst.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • On July 11, Rob Marsh, president and CEO of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, announced that checks for 24 charities owed from the 2024 Price Cutter Charity Championship will be mailed within 14 days—ensuring all charities are paid in full by the end of July. Marsh also said he reduced expenses and will change the event’s structure to better support charity finances in future tournaments.  Springfield News-Leader
