  • Law enforcement is searching for an 11-year-old girl from Springfield, Sophiea Stapp, who has been missing since Tuesday night, July 8 after leaving a friend's house and making statements about running away; she is described as having blonde hair (possibly dyed red) and blue eyes.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Charles Nelson was sentenced to 22 years for second-degree murder and 8 years for armed criminal action today—crediting time served—after a jury convicted him in March for the shooting death of trans woman Dominique Lucious and denied his request for a new trial.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Springfield Police issued an endangered person advisory for 11-year-old Sophiea R. Stapp after she went missing from the 2200 block of North Golden Avenue at 10 p.m. on July 8—her concerning statements to her mother raised alarm— and they ask anyone with information to call 911.  KY3
  • A Willow Springs woman, Meredith Helms, faced felony charges for allegedly shooting her boyfriend around 1:55 a.m. on July 9 after an argument—his non-life-threatening gunshot wound was treated at a Springfield hospital and she was held on a $25,000 bond ahead of her arraignment on July 10.  OzarksFirst.com
  • On July 8, the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel referred charges against SPC Wooster Rancy for the alleged murder of SGT Sarah Roque at Fort Leonard Wood — Rancy, arrested in October and held in pretrial confinement, will face a court-martial when a military judge sets the schedule.  KY3
  • De’Mya, a 10-year-old from Springfield, was paralyzed from the waist down after a bullet struck her in the back during a violent altercation near her parked truck on North Fremont—authorities have charged a 16-year-old juvenile, with a certification hearing set for August 18 as the community confronts this tragic incident.  OzarksFirst.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Kehoe signed 13 education bills on Wednesday that allow retired teachers to substitute without losing benefits, limit cell phone use in class, let homeschoolers join sports and clubs, and ban hair discrimination in schools — the law also lets Missouri State offer PhD programs and adds career-tech scholarships.  Springfield Daily Citizen
