- ➤ On Monday, July 7, the Child Advocacy Center announced a capital campaign with an $8 million goal and said $5 million has been secured to help over 26,000 children. The center will purchase a property (1414 W. Elfindale St.) in early August and add 10,000 square feet (to create five service pods) to reduce service wait times. Springfield Daily Citizen
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Springfield man was sentenced on three charges—first-degree attempted robbery, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary—after confronting victims with a gun during a burglary in progress on Oct.30 in 2022 when he was 17 and wore a cheetah print mask, according to police records. - ➤ The Springfield Symphony Orchestra announced its 91st season called Bingeworthy, which will feature nine themed concerts from Sept. 13 to May 9 at Juanita K. Hammons Hall — including shows with stories from Don Juan to Cinderella. New subscriptions open on July 10 and individual tickets will be on sale in August. Springfield Daily Citizen
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sonya Hayter was named the final president of Cox College and vowed to support students and staff until the school closes in 2027. The college will transition into the Alliance for Healthcare Education — a partnership with CoxNorth, Missouri State University, Springfield Public Schools and Ozarks Technical Community College — to train health care workers in southwest Missouri. - ➤ Greg and Martha Swick transform their Ozark backyard into a thriving habitat for native plants and insects to inspire local youth in caring for nature. They started GLADE, a program that provides hands-on conservation lessons, and their work is building a future of local environmental leadership—vital for our community. Springfield Daily Citizen
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Melville Road Bridge replacement project began yesterday and will close the bridge for up to 140 days to widen it and add an 8-foot multi-use path. I-44 will be closed in both directions between Kansas Expressway and West Bypass from 9 p.m. July 11 to at least 9 p.m. July 12—drivers are advised to follow detour routes. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ David Cameron was sworn in as Springfield’s 14th city manager on July 7 at the Busch Municipal Building—he was chosen from 75 applicants to fill the role left by Jason Gage. He plans to meet with community leaders—meetings have been set—to address concerns about his leadership style and improve government processes. Springfield Daily Citizen

- ➤ The Springfield Cardinals announced today that they have partnered with Solera Energy to install a 99-kilowatt solar panel system on Hammons Field — the panels, located over Suite 1-14 and the SpringNet Champions Club, are expected to save $280,000 in energy costs over 20 years while Power Alley at Gate Two lets fans charge phones and enter to win a $20,000 solar system or battery backup during upcoming home games.
