- ➤ A photo from Aug. 2, 1959 shows 16-year-old Randy Sheridan working at Dairy Queen during his summer job when he lost five pounds while serving ice cream under boss Bud Bergstrom. The Springfield-Greene County Library District and the Springfield News-Leader will share this historical image weekly — part of a new feature from the News-Leader’s photo archive. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri State University's TRIO Upward Bound program received a $36,000 grant from the Schneider Foundation to support the 2026 Summer Academic Academy, a six-week college simulation for Springfield high school students. The grant will cover transportation, meals, room and board and supplies — and it will fund new efforts such as ACT/SAT prep workshops and a student leadership conference. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ Springfield is hosting free AI training sessions when the Library District, 2oddballs Creative & Noble Business Strategies will lead a session titled AI for Everyday Life: Tiny Prompts, Big Wins on Thursday, July 10 at the Library Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The training will show beginners how to use ChatGPT for tasks like meal planning and will be followed by sessions for seniors and families. - ➤ Springfield-Greene County Library offers free research resources for cardholders and a Top 10 list of popular titles for June. The library also invites residents to donate extra vegetables to its community fridges at Midtown Carnegie Branch and Library Station—donations are scheduled using the Fresh Food Connect app. Springfield News-Leader
