  • A Springfield family found its lost cat after searching for more than a month as KY3’s Leigh Moody reported the success story—bringing relief to those who feared the pet was gone for good.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Angelo Amodio, a Lebanon homeowner, said his bathroom remodel stalled for six months after Springfield contractor Bath Planet accepted $21,350 for special order materials but did not start work. He said repeated calls over the past three months went unanswered while a civil suit has been filed in Christian County.  KY3

CRIME NEWS

  • DeSean Franklin—aged 24 and from Springfield—was sentenced in federal court to 78 months in prison without parole and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to trafficking firearms in 2023.  OzarksFirst.com
  • A former inmate filed a federal lawsuit alleging that ex-deputy Alejandro Lopez repeatedly exposed himself and touched her while she showered in the jail’s segregation wing after her arrest in October for a minor charge—Lopez pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts and remains in jail, with her claims stating that his actions caused lasting emotional harm.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in Springfield Public Schools Explore program met Clifford the Big Red Dog to mark the end of summer courses—students with perfect attendance received a free book to encourage reading over the break.  OzarksFirst.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield businesses must now provide proof of payment for personal property taxes—either a paid receipt or a statement of non-assessment—to get an occupational license. The ordinance, passed by the city council on June 23 by a 6 to 1 vote after officials found that over 60% of businesses had not filed their assessments, aims to ensure fair tax contributions.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri lawmakers may hold a special session in the fall to review a property tax cap included in the governor’s stadium funding plan and address rising housing costs – House Speaker Jon Patterson formed a committee that will hold seven hearings this summer to gather public input.  Springfield News-Leader
