- ➤ United Way Ozarks Region is hosting the 33rd annual Day of Caring on June 26 — the largest one-day volunteer event in southwest Missouri. Over 1,400 volunteers will work on 130 projects across Springfield to support 54 nonprofits — with activities including painting, landscaping, and clean-up tasks. KSMU
- ➤ On Tuesday, Ozarks Food Harvest unveiled 78 new raised garden beds at Food Bank Farm in a ribbon-cutting ceremony funded by a $200,000 Musgrave Foundation grant. The upgrades include a remote-controlled irrigation system and a new one-ton cargo van+they are expected to expand produce distribution for families in need. KY3

- ➤ Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in north Springfield—where a Toyota Camry struck a pedestrian just before midnight Monday—resulting in death after the victim was taken to a local hospital. OzarksFirst.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Springfield school board approved a $369 million budget by a 7-0 vote days before the new fiscal year began on Tuesday, June 24, increasing staff salaries by $9.3 million and adding special education positions. School officials said the plan also adds $791,456 to cover rising employer paid medical premiums and expands student behavior management - steps aimed at supporting nearly 24,500 students. - ➤ At its meeting on June 24, the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education voted on a $369 million budget for the next fiscal year starting July 1 — the plan calls for increased salaries, new special education teachers and paraprofessionals, enhanced funding for student behavior management, and the elimination of about 116 positions largely filled by retirements and resignations. The proposal sets aside $9.3 million for raises, $1.27 million to add special education staff, and $4.7 million for behavior support — measures aimed at addressing staffing challenges and retaining quality educators. - ➤ The SBA approved a disaster declaration on June 21 to offer relief for small businesses, residents and nonprofits in 12 counties hit by storms on April 29. A Disaster Loan Outreach Center opens today at 1 p.m. at the Greene County Public Safety Center—SBA representatives will assist applicants Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with loan deadlines on August 22 for physical damage and March 23, 2026, for economic injury. - ➤ Construction crews in southern Greene County are finishing the last leg of the Kansas Expressway project by paving eastward from Plainview Road to Cox Road, with work scheduled for completion in September. The project began in 2021, and officials said talks to extend the roadway into Christian County continue — the proposal is several years away. OzarksFirst.com
