COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield is offering free summer meals for children and teens ages 18 and under as part of the federally funded Summer Food Service Program. Meals are served weekdays at three club sites until August 8—helping families access lunch and snacks without needing to register.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Penske Truck Rental said it banned the person on the rental agreement after white supremacists used one of its trucks to protest Ozarks Pridefest when they returned to Springfield on June 14—video shows the group using shields with a Patriot Front logo. The police reported that no crimes occurred and no law enforcement was involved.  Springfield News-Leader

CRIME NEWS

  • A fourth trial in the case of Chaviz Nguyen’s 2023 shooting death in downtown Springfield has been scheduled, with Timothy Hester set to face a first-degree murder trial in April 2026 and four other accused scheduled for court dates—Elysha Bedell on Dec. 1, 2025, Cesar Bolanos on Jan. 9, 2026, Quartez Washington on Feb. 23, 2026, and Arshaun Bradley’s counsel status hearing on July 11, 2025— as the legal process continues.  OzarksFirst.com
  • Emails claiming you made a purchase or owe a traffic ticket are phishing scams that try to steal personal data (they include bogus links and phone numbers) and the Better Business Bureau advises checking accounts directly (without clicking on any links) to avoid sharing private information.  KY3
  • Residents at The Crossings at East Cherry received a text message Monday warning them about several vehicle break-ins over the weekend along East Cherry and Highway 65, and police said crime does not appear to be on the rise while advising residents to park near buildings—another incident at Oakwood Townhomes involved shattered windows and a stolen Kia that was later found abandoned nearby.  OzarksFirst.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Ozarks Pridefest took place Saturday, June 14 in downtown Springfield (with a Homecoming theme organized by the GLO Center) and featured a parade and all-day festivities. The event ended with an afterparty at Bizarre Bar featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants (a highlight for local celebration).  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cross Timbers Rural Fire Department replaced its 1985 truck with a new 2008 GMC that offers improved safety features—such as better lighting, airbags, and ABS brakes—funded through a 50/50 ARPA grant that required raising $12,500; the department, which relies on community donations and fundraising events, is also seeking additional volunteers to help fill its current need.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Seniors are urged to prepare for the rising summer heat by staying indoors, using fans, and checking with local senior centers for resources—Kevin Evans from Senior Age noted that a small temperature drop can help reduce heat-related risks and advised consulting a doctor to review medication effects.  KY3
