- ➤ In 1952, future president Ronald Reagan visited the Springfield newsroom during the 35th Division Reunion and world premiere of the baseball film The Winning Team while four screen stars and Aimee Arrant helped turn the office into a movie set. - ➤ After a dry start to the year, heavy rains in April and May brought Springfield's total to 29.83 inches as of mid-June—one of the top five wettest years on record that has caused flooding and delayed farmers' planting.
