- ➤ A new environmental educational pavilion opened at Lost Hill Park on May 21—built with half funding from the Missouri Department of Conservation plus support from Bass Pro Shops and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, it is set to host outdoor education events and offer rental space. Hambey Construction built the pavilion in collaboration with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board to advance outdoor learning programs. OzarksFirst.com
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ 7 Feathers Coffee & Co-Op began hosting select events last month in the historic downtown hut at 601 W. Walnut St. and will fully open as a coffee shop in about two months—serving hand-pressed espresso drinks with local art and produce as renovations continue. The business owners signed a three-year lease and have already invested about $15,000 to restore the 720-square-foot building that once housed Casper’s restaurant. Springfield Daily Citizen
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ozarks PrideFest, hosted by the Glo Center—known since 1998 as Tolerance Fest—is taking place on Saturday, June 14 at Park Central Square, rain or shine. The event starts at noon with a parade at 11:30 a.m. and features a concert by R&B artist Paige Alyssa, a drag show with Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestants, and 140 vendor booths. KSMU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ozarks Tech opened its new Roy Blunt Aviation Training Center near Springfield-Branson National Airport and will start its Airframe and Powerplant program this fall to train aviation mechanics. The center has four classrooms, two labs and an 11,000-square-foot hangar — which gives students hands-on practice with four airplanes and one helicopter — and was built with local, state and federal funds.
